Sustainability at LMU

Sustainability is one of the most pressing issues of our present and future. LMU embraces its responsibility and actively contributes to a future-oriented transformation in research, teaching, and on campus.

Governance for a sustainable LMU

As a University of Excellence, and in line with the framework agreement under the Bavarian Higher Education Innovation Act (Rahmenvereinbarung nach dem Bayerischen Hochschulinnovationsgesetz), LMU integrates sustainability as a strategic cross-cutting priority across all areas of the university. The university defines its sustainability strategy in the Higher Education Agreement between LMU and the Bavarian State Ministry of Science and the Arts (Hochschulvertrag). This strategy incorporates ecological, social, and economic aspects in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

LMU promotes effective governance through its Sustainability Committee and the LMU Sustainability Fund, both of which support both scientific and organizational initiatives. Their mission is to increase the visibility of existing efforts, create synergies, and systematically advance sustainability forward in research, teaching, and knowledge transfer. LMU strives to address urgent future challenges and to generate the greatest possible benefit for society.
